Heat Headed to El Paso for Two Games

Vanessa Guajardo,

Mid-South Division Title on the Line

(Laredo, TX):  The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (9 – 4 – 1, 28 points) has already clinched a playoff spot and already knows that they will be headed to Jackson, MS next weekend to play for the Southern Conference title and hopefully a trip to the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) Final Four Tournament and another PDL Championship title.

The only question for the Gateway City club left in the regular season is whether they will represent the Mid-South Division as its Champion or Runner-Up.

The Heat can win the Mid-South Division title with a tie or win this weekend when they take on the El Paso Patriots (5 – 6 – 3, 15 points) on Friday, July 23rd and Saturday, July 24th or if the DFW Tornados lose to the Houston Leones on Friday night in Dallas.

If the Heat loses both games in El Paso and DFW beats Houston, it will be the Tornados that will be the Mid-South Division Champion.

“We have two opportunities to get one point in El Paso and it is a good thing to have your destiny in your hands. It will not be an easy task playing the Patriots in their stadium, history tells us that,” said Heat Owner Shashi Vaswani.

“The team arrived in El Paso early on Thursday, one day before the games so the seriousness of wanting to win the Mid-South Division is there.”

Vaswani concluded, “Coach Collazo and his staff, along with the players want to win the division title and knowing where and what teams we are playing next weekend should gives us the incentive to pull it off. A win on Friday versus the Patriots will allow us to rest players on Saturday and give players that have not seen as many minutes as we would like to give them the opportunity to play.”
