Information on Flood Assistance and Where to Report Property Damage

Washington, DC –   Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) today released the following statement in response to the Rio Grande flooding affecting the City of Laredo and surrounding areas along the river. As the water recedes, Congressman Cuellar encourages residents to remain cautious and aware of the latest status updates.

“The City of Laredo has sustained severe flooding due to the rise of the Rio Grande. As a result, the City is providing to our affected residents food and shelter at the Laredo Civic Center with the assistance of the Red Cross. At this time, assistance for properties damaged by the flood is pending a preliminary assessment by City and County officials. As more information becomes available regarding damage assistance, Congressman Cuellar will work with the City of Laredo and Webb County to notify residents of how and where to apply. In the meantime, we ask that residents dial 311 to report local property damage and to learn more about current and future assistance. Should residents need immediate emergency assistance they should dial 911. For information on neighborhood evacuations, road closures and flood management, residents can contact the local Emergency Operations Center by calling (956) 725-5110. Moving forward, we are working to ensure Laredo and its families remain resilient in the wake of this flood. I want to thank our first-responders, volunteers, and State, City and County Officials for the tremendous amount of good work they’ve deployed in helping Laredo prepare and respond to this event. Without pause, I know that we will restore Laredo after the waters recede, and I extend my condolences to those Laredoans and their families who have been affected by this flood.”
