(July 3rd, LAREDO, TX)- The Broncos (14-21) trailed the Colts (18-17) 2-1 until they allowed four runs to come home in the top of the fifth to lose to San Angelo 6-3 and earn a split in their double header at Veterans Field. RHP Dimitri Camareno took to the mound for the first time since June 20th when he left after throwing just 1/3 of an inning before leaving the game with shoulder tightness. Camareno lasted four plus innings in game two of the double header, allowing nine hits and five earned runs.
The Colts took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with three straight singles, Ronnie Gaines adding the RBI single to get the Colts on the board. In the top of the fourth Landon Camp hit his third home run of the series to put the Colts up 2-0 over the Broncos.
The Broncos cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth when Kenny Gilbert singled, followed by a Nick Mahin single and Jonathan Cisneros hit a SAC fly to make the score 2-1 Colts in the lead.
The Colts offense blew the game open in the top of the fifth against Camareno. They scored four runs in the inning, on three hits, a walk, a hit batter and a couple of wild pitches. Dimitri Camareno did not make it out of the inning. He was replaced after allowing the first three batters to reach base by RHP Eric Eden (1-1), who pitched two innings, allowing two hits, one run, he walked one and struck out one.
Heading to the bottom of the fifth the Colts had a 6-1 lead, but the Broncos managed to add a run and cut the deficit. David Fowler singled to start the inning, followed by a Jason Diaz single. Back to back wild pitches brought Fowler home to score and cut the Colt lead to 6-2.
Kenny Gilbert hit his team leading fourth home run to make the score 6-3 Colts, but that was as close as the Broncos could get in game two of the double header. LHP Michael Hacker came on in the ninth and struck out the side to secure the Colts 6-3 victory.
