Back to School “Saturday” Immunization Clinics

Laredo, TX-Although summer has barely begun, it is time for parents to begin planning for the new school year by getting their children immunized for fall school entry. “Now is a good time to make an appointment with your health care provider, or go to a public health immunization clinic to have your child immunized,” said Dr. Hector F. Gonzalez, director of the City of Laredo Health Department. “Get it done early so you can avoid the late summer rush at doctor’s offices and immunization clinics.”

The City of Laredo Health Department will be offering low-cost back to school Saturday immunization clinics in July and August.  The Laredo Health Department’s back to school immunization clinics will be offered at 2600 Cedar from 8 am to 12:00 pm on:

  • Saturday July 10
  • Saturday July 24
  • Saturday August 14

Back to school clinics are on a walk-in basis; no appointment is necessary.  A parent or legal guardian must be present for all immunization appointments, and parents are advised to bring the child’s immunization card.

Children attending school in Texas are required to have been vaccinated for nine communicable diseases before entering grades kindergarten through twelfth.  Children attending day care in Texas must also be vaccinated for three more communicable diseases.  Vaccines continue to develop and evolve; they are responsible for the control of infectious diseases and are one of the most successful public health tools for preventing disease and death.  Immunizations are safe and effective, protecting your child’s health as well as protecting others around them.

“Parents often wait to schedule their immunization appointments, only to find that there are no appointments available,” said Gonzalez. “Now is a good time to call your child’s health care provider for an appointment, visit the City of Laredo Health Department’s back to school immunization clinics or plan to attend Operation Lone Star which will be held the first week of August at Alexander High School.”

For information please call the immunization division at (956) 795-4906 or visit at 2600 Cedar Avenue.
