Amarillo scored 16 runs on 17 hits to win the series against the Broncos

(July 25th, AMARILLO, TX) -Amarillo (33-23) scored 16 runs on 17 hits and defeated the Broncos (26-31) 16-5 in the series finale to win the series three games to four.

 The Broncos, looking for a series split with a win in the series finale sent RHP Jeff Jamnik (2-2) to the mound to take on RHP Richard Jessup (3-3) of the Dillas.

  The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Mike Murphy hit a double off the glove of the Dillas right fielder Alberto Cruz.  D.J Dixon then brought him home to give the Broncos the lead.

 Amarillo took the lead in the bottom of the second when Albert Cruz hit a two run homer after a Stephen Douglas single. Cruz’s tenth home run of the season gave the Dillas the 2-1 lead.

 The Broncos took the lead back in the top of the third.  Thennis led off with a walk and then Ryan Flynn reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second.  Jason Diaz then laid down a sacrifice bunt and moved both runners up a bag with one out.  Mike Murphy came up and tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single that brought Doug Thennis home.  D.J Dixon then hit a two run double that brought both runners home to give the Broncos a 4-2 lead. 

 In the bottom of the fourth the Dillas blew the game open against the Broncos.  They started the inning off against Jamnik with four straight hits.  Back to back doubles put runners on second and third when Albert Cruz knocked them both in with a two run single to tie the game at 4-4.  Rob Recuenco then gave Amarillo a lead they did not relinquish with an RBI double to score Cruz from first base.  After a walk to Jermel Lomack Adam De La Garza knocked in two more runs with a single to make the score 7-4 Dillas.  The final run of the inning came home when Daryl Jones hit a sacrifice fly to plate Adam De La Garza and make the score 8-4 Dillas after four innings.

 In the top of the sixth Nick Mahin hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot that made the score 8-5 Dillas.

 Amarillo was not done scoring, in the bottom of the seventh against RHP Eric Eden (1-2), they took three straight walks and loaded the bases.  LHP Thomas Vessella (0-0) came into the game and allowed a two run single to Rob Recuenco and the score was 10-5 Dillas.  A throwing error by Nick Mahin then allowed two more runs to score and make the score 12-5 Amarillo.

 In the bottom of the eighth Amarillo added four more runs on an RBI double by Stephen Douglas, an RBI ground out by Andrew Wong, and RBI singles by Brian Bueno and Adam De La Garza to make their lead 16-5.

 That was the final as RHP Turner Brasher came on in the ninth and faced for batters to secure the Dilla victory.
