Laredo, Texas – The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has awarded 100% compliance to the Webb County Jail for the second year in a row.

In the history of Webb County, in over 20 years, this is the 1st  time that a newly elected Sheriff passes jail inspection in his first 2 years in office.  On June 16th and 17th 2010, The Webb County Jail went through an unannounced and very meticulous jail inspection.  As a result,  The Texas Commission on Jail Standards found no deficiencies during the inspection.

“We feel very proud to have set an extremely solid foundation on all the components which attributed to the success of the jail inspection, therefore this result is due to the proactive approach taken early on during the beginning of my term. I applaud the  work of the jail staff and the diligence in which they perform their duties”, Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.

The areas reviewed were: Health Services, Personal Hygiene, New Construction, Existing Construction, Life Safety, Admission, Release, Records and Procedures, Classification, Supervision/Staff-Adequate, Sanitation, Food Service, Discipline, Grievance, Exercise, Education and Library, Work Assignments, Telephone, Correspondence, Commissary, Visitation and Religious Practices and holding cells at justice center.

“I Thank Sheriff Cuellar for his continued support in our efforts to upkeep the jail to standard.  I praise the commitment  of supervisors, correctional officers and administrative staff”, stated Jail Commander  Jose “Pepe” Salinas .
