Laredo, Texas (The Webb County) – On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, Sheriff Martin Cuellar proudly announced and exhibited 13 additional patrol units during a press conference.
These units were purchased through a USDA grant and certificates of obligation funds through Webb County. “ Through this USDA grant, presented to us by Congressman Henry Cuellar and Francisco Valentin, Jr., Texas State Director for USDA Rural Development, we were able to implement a Rural Emergency Initiative which has allowed us to buy these vehicles (2010 Crown Victorias) and keep our rural areas safer, I extend my gratitude to our County Judge and County Commissioners for supporting our goals.” Said Sheriff Cuellar.
These units also bring a new image to the patrol Division. The Patrol Division is one of the backbone of the Sheriff’s Office, providing 24 hour patrol of the County, including residences and businesses. The Patrol Officer is the first on any crime scene and is responsible for making decisions for securing and/or investigating. They serve warrants, subpoenas, domestic violence protective orders, criminal and civil summons, answer calls for service and various other duties required by the Public. Therefore, it is extremely important that our units are always available, operational and ready when a call comes through our phone line.
“ With these new patrol units on our streets, Webb County will be safer and our rural areas will be better protected.” Webb County Judge Danny Valdez stated.
