KGNS/Your CW Laredo/ Telemundo and Alfredo ‘Fred’ Santos IV are this year’s top winners for work with Keep Laredo Beautiful

(Laredo,Texas) – Keep Texas Beautiful recently announced KGNS-TV/Your CW Laredo/Telemundo as the 1st Place winner of the 2010 Media Award. The honor recognizes the efforts of KGNS-TV/Your CW Laredo/Telemundo to enhance their community and protect the Texas environment.

The Media Award is one of nine categories in the Keep Texas Beautiful Awards and recognizes the public awareness and education efforts of media in supporting environmental issues.

Also being recognized with a Keep Texas Beautiful Award for Volunteer of the Year as the 2nd place winner is Alfredo ‘Fred’ Santos IV.  The Volunteer of the Year is one of the nine categories in the KTB Award program and the recognition is for individuals who, during 2009, supported the mission of KTB through extraordinary efforts and contributed to the betterment of their community.

Lynne S. Nava, Executive Director of Keep Laredo Beautiful stated, “This year’s winners were exceptional.  The first place media award was well deserved as the KGNS/Your CW Laredo/Telemundo group not only assisted with outreach and public

awareness, but also, as a sales team, they created and participated in many promotional activities that furthered the goals of Keep Laredo Beautiful, Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.  They are a ‘hands on’ everything team….even rotting bananas and dirty diapers.”

“Fred Santos IV did an outstanding job as Keep Laredo Beautiful President and gave of his time and talents on a daily basis.  He juggled presentations along with clean ups, environmental education programs and coordination of Earth Day events, not to mention recruiting volunteers to assist with everything,” concluded Nava.

Both of the award winners were nominated by Keep Laredo Beautiful and their board of directors.  This is not the first time that Keep Laredo Beautiful has had state wide winners. Past award recipients have been Raul ‘Roy’ Garcia – 1st place for the Ed Davis Litter Law Enforcement Award; David Michael Gonzalez – 1st place for a Youth Award in Scouting for his Eagle Scout Project; Jay St. John Productions – 1st Place in the media division for his environmental radio show.

Each year, Keep Texas Beautiful acknowledges deserving senior citizens, community groups, individuals, civic organizations, media, government entities and law enforcement officials for their commitment to litter prevention and cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, education and publicity of environmental issues and community beautification.

Award winners will be recognized during the 43rd Annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference, June 21-24, 2010, in Austin. A full list of winners and award descriptions, as well as information about the conference can be found at www.ktb.org
