LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry yesterday seized more than two tons of marijuana in a tractor trailer during a routine inspection at World Trade Bridge.  The seizure occurred on Thursday, June 3 at World Trade Bridge when CBP officers processed a 2000 Freightliner tractor hauling a 1999 Wabash trailer driven by a 29-year-old Mexican national from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico carrying a commercial shipment of wheat pellets. CBP officers referred the manifested shipment for a secondary inspection that resulted in the discovery of 144 bundles of marijuana co-mingled with the shipment of wheat pellets. The bulk load of marijuana weighed a total of 4,359 pounds and is valued at more than $4.3 million.

CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for further investigation and seized the contraband.

“Our officers have maintained their vigilance in the commercial environment and this seizure reflects the ongoing commitment of our officers to uphold the CBP mission and keep our borders secure,” said Gene Garza, CBP Port Director, Laredo
