June 5th, LAREDO, TX – The Broncos were nipped 4-1 by the White Wings and lose the series to Rio Grande after giving up three runs in the ninth inning.
RHP Dimitri Camareno (0-1 ) made his third start of the season, all against the White Wings. Through six full innings of work Camareno had only allowed three hits to the White Wings.
Unfortunately one of those three hits was a solo home run off the bat of Salvador Paniagia and that gave the White Wings a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos would strike against LHP Greg Conrad ( 0-1), making his second start of the year for the White Wings in the bottom of the fourth. Doug Thennis would hit a one out triple and come home to score the tying run when Nick Mahin hit a ground ball to second baseman Brad Menadier.
With the score tied 1-1 Dimitri Camareno struck out the side in the top of the sixth, which proved to be his last inning of the game. In all, Camareno went six innings, allowing just three hits, just the one run on the Paniagia homer, walked three and struck out six.
With those six innings Camareno now holds the longest outing by a Bronco starting pitcher. Unfortunately a ND was all he would get for his efforts.
Greg Conrad would go seven strong innings finishing on a strong note by retiring the Broncos in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Conrad would allow just the one run on two hits, walk one and strike out three.
RHP Michael Lucas pitched a perfect seventh inning of relief allowing two hits but getting out his own jam.
RHP Freddy Ballestas would do the same thing for the White Wings in the eighth inning.
In the top of the ninth LHP Vinnie Dechristofaro came on, Javis Diaz reached on an infield single. Dechristofaro then struck out the next to batters he faced.
Dan Firova then went the bullpen and brought in Broncos closer Jonathan Miller. Miller allowed an infield single to Salvador Paniagia. Runners on first and second Joel roa would hit an RBI double to give the White Wings the 2-1 lead in the ninth. Arlon Quiroz would be the next batter and hit a two run triple to push the lead to 4-1 White Wings in the ninth.
Michael Barbosa, the White Wing closer would come in the bottom of the ninth and pick up his fifth save in 2010, striking out the side.
WP: Ballestas (2-0)

S: Barbosa (5)
