Broncos defeat the Colts 7-3 on the back of seven, two hit innings from Juan Peralta; take first series of 2010

June 17th– LAREDO, Tx-The Broncos picked up excellent pitching from starter Juan Peralta and defeated the Colts to take their first series in 2010 by a score of 7-3 at Veterans Field. Juan Peralta (1-1) made his third start of the season since coming over from the White Wings, opposing the Broncos was Brian Henschel (1-2).
Henschel pitched well for the Colts, he went all eight innings for San Angelo allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits, he walked one and struck out three.
He was bested by the Broncos Juan Peralta. Peralta held the Colts hit less through five innings, allowing only three walks, he hit a batter and Crosland reached on an error. Peralta threw seven innings allowing one run, on two hits, he walked three and struck out five.
In the bottom of the first Nick Mahin went deep to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead; his second home run of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth Jake Wells hit a two run single to extend the Broncos lead to 4-0, Wells picked up his first two RBI of the season.
In the top of the sixth Peralta would give up his only two hits and lone run. A lead off double by Ronnie Gaines was followed by a single by Mark Ramos that moved Gaines to third. Josh Collazzo then hit into a 6-4-3 double play that plated Gaines and made the score 4-1 Broncos.
In the bottom of the eighth with Brian Henschel still on the mound Nick Mahin would double. Thennis traded places with Mahin, doubling him home and the Broncos had a 5-1 lead. Gabe Memmert singled Thennis to third. After a Fowler foul out and a Wells strike out, Ryan Flynn hit an RBI single that plated Thennis. A throwing error by Ramos allowed Memmert to score and the Broncos had a 7-1 lead.
Micheal Lucas (2-2) came in and retired the Colts in order in the eighth inning and was back out on the mound for the nin th. Lucas allowed a two run homer to Trey Carter, but the effort was in vain as Lucas shut the door on the next two hitters to secure the 7-3 Broncos victory.
With the win the Broncos have won 5 of their last 7 and secured their first winning series of 2010. The Broncos now head to Robstown, TX to play a four game series with the Thunder, who are in last place in the United League.
