Broncos allow three runs in the seventh; fall to Dillas 5-3 in series opener

The Broncos (10-17) had a 3-1 lead over the Dillas (15-12) in the fifth inning, the recorded just two hits from the fifth inning on and lost 5-3 in the series opener at Veterans Field.  RHP Juan Peralta (1-1) climbed atop the mound for his fourth start in a Bronco uniform, squaring off against the Dillas Richard Jessup (0-1).

The Broncos got on the board in the bottom of the first after a walk to Kenny Gilbert, Carlos Arroyo reached on an error and Doug Thennis knocked in Gilbert with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the second the Broncos added to their lead when Luany Sanchez hit a leadoff double. Fowler than reached on an infield single that moved Sanchez to third. Ryan Flynn hit into a 4-6-3 double play ball that plated Sanchez and gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead.

Peralta had cruised through two innings against the Dillas when, in the third, Jonathan Cisneros hit a solo home run to make the score 2-1 Broncos.

In the fourth Doug Thennis hit a leadoff triple and came home to score on a throwing error by Dilla catcher Brian Bueno to make the score 3-1 Broncos.

Peralta finished the sixth and began the seventh. He got into trouble; the first batter he faced reached on an error by right fielder Carlos Arroyo. Brian Bueno then knocked him in to make the score 3-2 Broncos.

Manager Dan Firova went to the bullpen and brought in LHP Vinnie Dechristofaro (0-4). Vinnie pitched to two batters and they both reached base, the first on a walk and the second on a single.  Back to the bullpen went the Broncos skipper. RHP Maximinio De La Cruz (0-1) came out and allowed a two run double to Joaquin Rodriguez and the Dillas took their first lead of the game 4-3.

De La Cruz allowed another solo home run to Cisneros in the top of the ninth; his second of the game; and the score was 5-3 Dillas.

The Broncos would notch only two hits in the final five innings of the ball game and eight of the final 15 outs recorded by the Dillas were strike outs.

RHP Ramon Geronimo (2-0) came on in the bottom of the ninth and faced four batters, securing the 5-3 Dilla win and picking up his fourth save of the season.

The Broncos send LHP Brian Buchanan (2-1) to the mound in game two vs. Taylor Allen (1-2) of the Dillas; first pitch at 7:35 PM.
