Webb County Inmate Transported to Laredo Medical Center

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) –  On Monday, May 17, 2010, at approximately , 8:40 a.m., Webb County jail medical staff were on the 4th floor when inmates notified staff that a male subject had collapsed. The medical staff immediately provided medical attention and brought the inmate down to the 1st floor. The inmate was transported to the Laredo Medical Center at approx. 8:57 a.m. The jail medical staff observed that the inmate was showing symptoms and indicators of a heart attack.

 At approximately 9:28 a.m., The Laredo Medical center notified the Webb County jail that the inmate passed away.  Inmate was a 45 year old male from Laredo, Texas.  He was being held on a 1 million dollar bond for a narcotic related charge that stemmed from an arrest on January 20th, 2010.  The inmate’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified. Autopsy will be administered as standard procedure.

  Any time there is a death at our jail an independent investigation is administered. The Texas Rangers will be conducting an investigation.

 “Although this is an unfortunate incident for the inmate and his family, we offer our sincere condolences and prayers.  I commend my deputies, shift supervisors and medical staff for their diligent efforts in regard to this incident. They showed true professionalism in the face of adversity. “ Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
