Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Thursday, May 20, 2010, at approx. 9:30 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the US Marshals Office conducted an investigation which led to the recovery of  a 13 year old child from Austin, Texas.

The 13 year old child was reported missing on May 11, 2010.  The child was entered as missing in the TCIC/NCIC (Texas Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center) as well as the NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) data base.  Information was developed as to the location of the missing child.  With the joint efforts of both agencies the child was located in Nuevo Laredo and safely returned to the port of entry in Laredo, Texas where a brief inspection by Homeland Security Agents was done to properly identify the child. Where she was then reunited with her family, Sheriff’s Deputies and US Marshals.

“Many years ago, these type of cases were rare on the border and did not always ended up with favorable results.  But now, due to the latest technology and the strong leadership within the Law Enforcement Agencies, together we are able to have a higher success rate in reuniting missing children with their families unharmed.  Sheriff’s Office – Keeping R Kids Safe program continues to be on our top priority list.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
