Washington, DC – Today, Texas border Congressmen Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Charles Gonzalez (TX-20), Ruben Hinojosa (TX-15), Solomon P. Ortiz (TX-27) and Silvestre Reyes (TX-16) released the following statement in response to the White House border security plan announced today that includes over $500 million in supplemental funding to further secure the nation’s southern border:
“The communities we represent in Texas are at the frontlines of our border security efforts. For these reasons, we commend the President in making this supplemental request to augment federal, state and local law enforcement working to secure the nation’s southern border. In light of escalated violence in Mexico this spring, nine southern border lawmakers from California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico, made a collective request this April for over $500 million in emergency funding to support our law enforcement capabilities on the ground. Hence, we look forward to working with the White House as more information becomes available as to where and when these additional border security resources will be deployed.”
