For many motorists, the first word that comes to mind when encountering a highway construction work zone is delay. The word that should come to mind is caution. And each April, the Texas Department of Transportation joins with the Federal Highway Administration, national transportation associations and numerous other state DOTs for National Work Zone Awareness Week to remember victims and to raise awareness of safety precautions for workers and motorists in work zones.
This year, NWZAW will be observed April 19-23. In this week’s Statewide Podcast TxDOT public information officer talked to Jerral Wyer, director of TxDOT’s Occupational Safety Division, about what TxDOT does to make work zones safe.
