Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Saturday, April 17,2010, at approximately 3 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call through the Crime Stoppers line. The caller stated there was suspicious activity at a warehouse on the 1400 block of business lane, located on the Mines Road area. Deputies responded to the call and initiated surveillance. They observed suspects unload a tractor trailer and then load suspicious crates before loading the same cargo they had previously unloaded. Deputies approached the warehouse and observed three subjects run into the brush nearby. Deputies found two subjects identified as Jose Juan Gonzalez, 25 and Juan Angel Ponce, 21, both of Laredo, hiding in the brush area. Both were arrested and remanded to the Webb County Jail. Deputies confiscated 5 wooden crates with 2,978 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated 1.6 million dollars.
“ Our Crime Stoppers Tip Line continues to be a success, this particular call prevented the delivery of a vast amount of drugs from going out to our children. I encourage the business community to please use our Crime Stoppers Tip Line (956) 727-TIPS if you detect any criminal activity in your area.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
