Man Arrested for Stealing Copper wiring from Utility Poles

LPD received a call from a person reporting that at the 1300 block of San Jorge a man was stealing wiring from a utility pole. When the suspect noted the caller watching him he got down and started running. The suspect had a notable limp. The man was also carrying a bag with him. Laredo Police found the man at the 1100 block of San Francisco. There officers found in his possession a bag filled with copper wiring from the ground wiring on utility poles and was also found with wire cutters. Juan Manuel Garcia, 51, was placed under arrest for Theft of Material (consisting of 50% copper) a state jail felony. He was taken to Webb County Jail in lieu of no bond set by Hector Liendo. AEP was contacted in reference to the ground wires being cut in order to make the appropriate fixes to the utilities affected.
