EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this week seized cocaine valued at $1.2 million from a vehicle driven by a man from San Antonio .
The seizure occurred on April 7, 2010 at Bridge I. A CBP officer referred a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup driven by a 59-year-old male U.S. citizen from San Antonio for a secondary examination. In secondary, CBP officers confirmed discrepancies in the gas tank area. A CBP Canine alerted to the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle. A non-intrusive imaging system scan indicated anomalies in the gas tank area. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the vehicle and seized 16 packages containing a total of 39 pounds of cocaine hidden in the gas tank and floor areas. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.2 million. CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for further investigation.
“Our officers continue to remain focused, sharp and vigilant and that resolute commitment to upholding the CBP mission resulted in the interdiction more than $1 million in cocaine at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry,” said Cynthia Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass.
