Courtesy Xochitl Mora,
This project was the continued park development along Zacate Creek to include constructing a Zero Depth Splash Park and other related amenities in the Azteca Neighborhood.
The Splash Park is the first-of-its-kind to be constructed in the Azteca Neighborhood. It provides for wholesome family fun in a safe and clean environment, where children may escape the hot Laredo summer by cooling off under a refreshing burst of water.
The splash park area includes 3 above-ground and 7 below-ground spray components, below-ground plumbing, a 3,000 gallon underground water containment tank, and an operating system control panel. The components are controlled by a bollard activator system. The system is fully automated where components are activated on a timed sequence in order to allow for water conservation. All features are ADA accessible. Other amenities include landscaping, benches, bar-be-que pit, picnic table, and a piñata pole.
The total project cost is $239,000. This project is funded with Community Development Block Grant funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and District VIII Discretionary Funds. The design and construction of the project was by Kraftsman Commercial Playground & Water Park Equipment.
