Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies Take 528 Pounds of Marijuana Off the Highway

 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop on U.S Hwy 83 and Lomas Del Sur. The  driver of a Red Dodge pickup truck refused to stop and eventually drove away in an attempt to elude Deputies.  As soon as vehicle came to a stop, the driver and the passenger abandoned the vehicle and absconded.  The driver was apprehended shortly thereafter with the assistance of the United States Border Patrol.

 Sheriff’s Deputies discovered 11 large bundles of  a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana inside the Dodge pickup. The Marijuana weighed approximately 528 pounds with an estimated street value of $267,168.  Arrested was Jose David Ramirez Reyna, 26 years of age, he was charged with Possession of marijuana, Felony 2, Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle a State Jail Felony, Reckless Driving a Class B misdemeanor and Evading Arrest a Class B misdemeanor.  A passenger was also arrested, Israel Villarreal Muniz, 36 years of age, he was charged with Possession of marijuana, Felony 2, and Evading arrest a Class B misdemeanor.  Both were remanded to the Webb County Jail.

 “  Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies are determined to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking operations out on the highway in order to keep our communities and children safe.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
