LISD Office of Communications Earn State Honors

 The Laredo Independent School District’s Office of Communications and the Instructional Television (ITV) Departments received several 2009 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Best in Category, Gold, and Silver Star Awards for excellence in school communications. The awards were announced at the TSPRA Star Awards Celebration last week during the association’s annual conference in Austin, Texas.

 Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their outstanding contributions in school communications. This year, over1000 entries were received in the annual contest.

 Entries selected as best in the state were honored with Silver Star Awards for an entry that achieves its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill; Gold Star Awards for an entry that not only achieves its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill, but, in the opinion of the judges, does so in an exceptional way; and Best of Category Awards for an entry that stands out from all the others for its exceptional creativity and quality.

The Office of Communications received the following Awards:

 “We are extremely proud of the dedication, passion, and outstanding contributions our talented staffs in the Communications and ITV Departments have made to the overall success of our district,” said Dr. Marcus Nelson, LISD Superintendent. “I am glad to see them get the plaudits and recognition that their work deserves.”

 TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional organization whose members are dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development for its members, and improving communication between Texans and their public schools.
