On February 10, 2010 a person filed a police report in relation to some fraud occurring on his DirecTV satellite account. According to the complaint he explains that while trying to upgrade his DirecTV services, he discovered that an unknown person had called in and pretended to be him (the actual client). By doing this the unknown person was able to activate two access cards (boxes) and was getting free service at the legitimate customer’s expense. The complainant further explained that he was able to obtain the phone number of the person who had called in and activated the cards without his consent.
The investigation led to man named Julio Aguiar, 24. Aguiar was identified as an employee of a local DirecTV company. The owner of the Direct TV outlet stated to the investigator that Aguiar was terminated back in late 2008. The owner further stated that Julio had been terminated for committing a similar fraud scheme on an existing customer`s account. Coincidentally this fraud also involved unauthorized activations and Aguiar was arrested back in 2008 for committing fraud.
