Sheriff’s Deputies Take Marijuana Off The Highway

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop a mile north of the Zapata/Webb County Line on Highway 83 South. The driver of a white Chrysler LHS, bearing paper plates refused to stop, resulting in a chase. The Chrysler malfunctioned, the driver then fled on foot but within minutes was apprehended by Sheriff Deputy while attempting to jump over a deer proof fence.
Sheriff’s Deputies discovered 6 large bundles of green leafy substance inside the vehicle, believed to be marijuana. The marijuana had an approximate weight of 366 pounds with an estimated street value of $185,196. Arrested was Marcos Casarez, 19, of El Cenizo, Texas. Casarez was charged with possession of marijuana, Felony 2, and Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, State Jail Felony.
“No matter how or big or small the marijuana bundles are, Our Deputies continue to be vigilant on the streets and the Highway as well”. Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
