The Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts will be hosting a voter registration drive at all LISD high schools to register students to vote. On Friday January 29, the magnet school will visit Cigarroa High School at 8:15 a.m. and Nixon High at 10:15 a.m.
The registration drive is a first for the VMT, where faculty and students are planning their Annual “Rock the Vote” event scheduled for Tuesday, February 2 on the campus grounds in downtown Laredo. Both events encourage local youth to learn about races and issues, as well as the importance of voting. At Rock the Vote, students will participate in mock elections and study different candidates and their issues.
On Thursday more than 300 eligible students registered to vote at Martin High School.
The event is sponsored by the VMT Government Club, with assistance from the Webb County Elections Office. Representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties will also be on hand.
