LISD Campus Crime Stoppers to Raise Funds, Awareness

As part of Crime Stoppers Month, Laredo ISD Campus Crime Stoppers will participate in several events to help increase awareness of its crime reduction efforts.
Rick Perry, Governor of Texas has proclaimed January as Crime Stoppers month in Texas. Governor Perry encourages all Texans to join in this effort and work to make our communities even safer.
Laredo ISD Campus Crime Stoppers is planning to work the soda booth during the annual Menudo Bowl to help our community fight against crime. Campus Crime Stoppers queen, Tanya Benavides and princess, Brittany Winters, will be at the Menudo Bowl Cooks meeting, take part in the Opening Ceremonies, and will also be handing out the trophies to the winners in the various categories on January 30, at the Laredo International Fair and Exposition grounds.
Campus Crime Stoppers recently competed with schools and communities under 75,000 population category during the International Conference in Australia. At the conference the program received seven awards: Best Radio Public Service Announcement produced by the VMT Communications Class; VMT Magnet Connection 90.5FM Radio Station, for airing the PSA; Best Television Public Service Announcement acted in and produced by the VMT Communications Class; KGNS Television for airing the PSA; Best Print Public Service Announcement written by Francisco “Paco” Diaz and for El Manana Newspaper for publishing the story; and the Productivity Award for the program’s 2008-2009 school year statistics.
During the fourth quarter of 2009, Campus Crime Stoppers received 198 tips and 168 paid tips. 4th quarter rewards totaled $6,140.00. For 2009, Campus Crime Stoppers statistics were tips received 715 with rewards paid 447. 2009 amount of rewards totaled $18,415.00.
Crime Stoppers has helped solve over one million crimes across the nation. By encouraging citizens to help reduce crime by combining media awareness, monetary rewards and anonymity for informants, Crime Stoppers has created an effective method for solving crimes and helping citizens take back control over their neighborhoods.
