President Obama Renews Commitment to Restore and Rebuild the Nation’s Economy
Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) today released the following statement following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address to Congress:
“Tonight, the President renewed his commitment to the American economy and I stand by his call to reduce the nation’s deficit and restore the nation’s fiscal health. This is vitally important to the American people and our economic future in the 21st Century.
“Looking back, we have stabilized the nation from the brink of financial disaster and those stakes we faced just one year ago. In less than twelve months, we have put this country on a path towards economic recovery, but with the rising tide of unemployment, there is still work to be done. We need to bring back jobs, create new jobs, help people keep their homes and renew Americans’ faith in the initiatives we take in Washington.
“I commend the President and this Congress for taking swift action to rebuild and restore our national economy in 2009. In 2010, we must pass meaningful fiscal reforms to rein-in federal spending and bring down the nation’s debt. The American people are still hurting as we emerge from this recession, and bipartisan action can help us achieve those national priorities we will pursue this year.”
