On December 21, 2009 at approximately 1:20 pm the Laredo Police Department received a 911 call of a person armed with a flame thrower at the 400 block of Allende.  The caller stated that a man who lived at the apartments was discharging a dangerous flame from a homemade aerosol can with a lighter and had even come at him with the device.  When officers arrived the suspect fled into his home and refused to come out.  Officers made entry into the apartment in order to ensure everyone’s safety, including the suspect.  When the officers forced the door down, the officers entered the apartment only to be met with a flame being ejected from the combustible device.  One of the officers fired his weapon in defense of his life.  The suspect was wounded in the leg and was rushed to the LMC for medical treatment.  As of 4:30 this afternoon the suspect was treated then released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Webb County Jail.  Joel Carrejo, age 43, was placed under arrest and charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer F/1, and 1 count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon F/2 for the assault on the person who called 911.
