City of Laredo Health Department Opens H1N1 Vaccine to General Public

Coutesy Xochitl Mora,

Laredo, TX – The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) is opening up the H1N1 vaccine supply to the general public.  With supplies increasing, we will be able to offer the vaccine to the general population (6 months and older), but to continue to ensure people in priority groups get the vaccine they need. Since early October, Texas had been targeting the limited vaccine supply to priority groups, such as pregnant women and people with high-risk health conditions, to help protect those most at risk. The expansion is consistent with the overall vaccine strategy developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CLHD immunization clinic is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Please continue to practicing the following preventive measures:

If you are ill with fever (>100), sore throat, cough and flu like symptoms STAY HOME until you are 24 hours free of fever without taking any fever reducing medication.

  • If you are part of a high risk group or do not better in 2-3 days call your physician.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it and wash your hands.
  • If you cough, cough into your elbow, sleeve, or into tissues.  Wash your hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
  • Use alcohol-based hand cleaners often.
  • If you feel sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.  Call your doctor if you are a high risk group.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
