In an ongoing effort to combat the spread of the H1N1 virus, Laredo Independent School District is scheduling H1N1 vaccine clinics for LISD students. The LISD Health Service Department in conjunction with the City of Laredo Health Department will begin H1N1 vaccine clinics at various campuses throughout the district starting Wednesday, November 18. The Health Department has 1,000 doses of H1N1 vaccines available at this time for LISD students.

Clinics will be held at the following campuses:

Heights Elementary Wednesday, November 18 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

J.C. Martin Elementary Thursday, November 19 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Santo Nino Elementary Friday, November 20 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Each clinic site is only for students from that campus. LISD will continue to add clinics at other campuses as the Health Department receives more doses of H1N1 vaccines.

The vaccines are free to all students. Students must have submitted a signed permission form and parents for all elementary students must be present when the shot is administered.

“Throughout the school year, LISD has taken every measure possible to ensure our students, teachers, and staff at our campuses stays healthy,” stated Patricia Keck, LISD Health Services Director. “LISD recently installed the Argus1 System, an Internet-based medical decision support system for early identification of possible novel Influenza H1N1 virus infection of students, teachers, and staff. LISD also held numerous training sessions for custodians to ensure proper cleaning of all campuses.”

The LISD Board of Trustees made the H1N1 vaccine clinics possible when they approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the city of Laredo Health Department.
