LAREDO – On-going construction of the FM 1472-IH 35 overpass (north and south direct connectors) requires periodic, temporary closures of the IH 35 north- and southbound main lanes at FM 1472 and closure of associated streets-roads to include Del Mar Blvd. at IH 35, Santa Maria Ave. at FM 1472, IH 35 north- and southbound frontage roads and entrance and exit ramps.
The current construction phase calls for the installation of steel girders, false decking, and life lines over IH 35 as part of the northbound FM 1472 direct connector bridge. This installation will require the complete closure of Santa Maria/SB IH 35 frontage road and SB IH 35.
The following scheduled closures and detours will take place 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, weather permitting:
● Thursday, November 19 and Saturday, November 21, 2009 – Santa Maria closure from Del Mar north to FM 1472. No traffic will be allowed within this area. IH 35 SBFR (southbound frontage road) traffic north of FM 1472 will be re-directed to NB FM 1472.
● Friday, November 20, 2009 – SB IH 35 closure south of Shiloh. All SB traffic will be required to exit at the FM1472/Santa Maria/Del Mar exit and use frontage road to access IH 35 on ramp to SB I-35 south of Del Mar.
NOTE – For more efficient traffic control, the FM 1472 SB access loop will be closed to thru traffic and all FM 1472 SB traffic will be directed to access the southbound direct connector (SBDC) bridge.
The traveling public should slow down, drive with extreme caution, and observe all safety signs, traffic control devices and flaggers in the work zone area.
