Police Department Issues Auto Theft Advisory

The Laredo Police Auto Theft Division is releasing a public notice to all heavy duty truck owners, especially those owners of Ford F-250’s and F-350’s. There has been a rash of thefts of these types of vehicles and owners should take extra precautions to safe guard their trucks against theft. Due to the height of these vehicles owners usually cannot store them inside the normal sized garages. This makes them especially susceptible to auto theft. The use of a car alarm or any anti-theft device is highly effective or they can register the vehicle with the Laredo Auto Theft Division’s “H.E.A.T.” (Help End Auto Theft) program. The car will be registered with dispatch and gives police the authority to pull the car over and verify the identity of the driver to ensure it has not been stolen. The registration requires the owner of the car to come to the police department with the vehicle, the registration, driver’s license and proof of insurance. Once the car has been registered the owner qualifies for a “Club” anti theft device (while supplies last). This registration is absolutely free to the public.
