City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas read several proclamations (attached) for several organizations in town.
The pink display in council was the proclamation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Laredo, and countless organizations that promote breast cancer awareness were on-site to discuss their services, praise each other and the work they are each doing, and most importantly, remind everyone that early prevention is key to surviving this very treatable disease. Some of these organizations even help to cover or drastically reduce the fees for treatment services and in Laredo, treatment is usually initiated within a week, as opposed to other places which can take approximately 10 weeks from initial mammogram. This issue is always very close to the mayor’s heart, as his own mother passed away from breast cancer. (Photos 003-0012)
Representatives promoting the importance of stressing that mental health is critical to overall health, and how an entire community can be affected by the side effects of untreated mental health issues, Mayor Salinas proclaimed the week Mental Illness Awareness Week in Laredo.
Finally, Fire Chief Steve Landin and Laredo Firefighters joined Mayor Salinas to proclaim the week, National Fire Prevention Week, reminding us all of the importance exercise fire safety to prevent destructing property and loss of life
