Man Sentenced for Assaulting a Laredo Police Officer

Jose Angel Rosas was sentenced today in the 341st District Court to seven years in prison for the following:
Assault on a Public Servant 3rd Degree Felony
Evading Arrest State Jail Felony
Attempt to Take a Weapon from an Officer State Jail Felony
Resisting Arrest Class A misdemeanor
Failure to I.D. Class A misdemeanor
On January 7, 2008 the defendant was evading arrest on a stolen motorcycle. At some point, he abandoned the motorcycle and ran into the brush, jumped a fence and continued to flee Laredo Police on foot. During the foot chase, an officer attempted to apprehend the defendant and he reached for the officer’s weapon. The gun discharged but no one was injured. The defendant was detained, handcuffed and taken to the Webb County jail.
The Defendant was sentenced to seven years in prison for the Assault on a Public Servant. He was also sentenced to one year for each of the other charges with all charges to run concurrently.
