 With the recent drought and the lack of water during the summer, many Counties are looking at new and innovative ways to harvest water when rain is scarce.  On Wednesday, Precinct 2 Commissioner Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina and the Webb County Extension Office will be sponsoring a Rainwater Harvesting Workshop to show residents what they can do to harvest rainwater throughout the year.

Rainwater harvesting is the capture and storage of rainwater for purposes such as landscape irrigation, potable and non-potable indoor uses, and storm water abatement.  Harvested rainwater can be particularly useful when no other source of water supply is available, or if the available water supply is inadequate or of poor quality.

“We’re looking forward to the workshop so that Webb County residents can learn how to harvest their own rainwater and put it to good use,” said Commissioner Tijerina.  “We invite the public to attend the workshop and see first-hand how the process works.”  Tijerina went on to say that rainwater harvesting is very beneficial for colonia residents and urges everyone to register and attend the workshop.

Speakers for the event include Billy Kniffen, Extension Program Specialist-Water Resource Management and John Smith, Extension Program Specialist.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, October 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Self Help Center Park located at 8116 Highway 359.
