Dangerous Minnesota Fugitive Caught in Laredo, Texas by LPD’s Warrant Division

On October 02, 2009, at approximately 6 p.m., the Laredo Police Department arrested Gregory Wayne Smith of Saint Paul, Minnesota on an outstanding arrest warrant out of Stearns County on charges of 1st degree rape. The Laredo Police Department warrants division received a call from detectives in Saint Paul Minnesota informing that they had reliable information about Smith being in the Laredo vicinity near the downtown area. After setting up a short surveillance Laredo Police Officers assigned to the warrants division were able to locate and successfully arrest Smith on the outstanding felony warrant. He is at Webb County Jail and is pending extradition back to Saint Paul Minnesota. It is believed that Smith was in the process of fleeing into Mexico.
