EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this week seized $84,000 in marijuana and arrested a San Antonio woman in connection with the seizure.

The seizure occurred on Oct. 12 at Bridge II. A CBP officer referred a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by Lorena Hernandez, 24, a U.S. citizen from San Antonio , Texas for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers noted discrepancies in the gas tank area. CBP Canine “Outlaw” alerted to the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle. A non intrusive imaging system scan indicated anomalies in the gas tank area.  CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the gas tank and discovered 21 packages containing a total of 84 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $84,000. CBP officers arrested Hernandez and turned her over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents who investigated the seizure and processed her on federal drug charges.

“CBP officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry maintained their vigilance and applied an effective combination of inspectional skills and technology to take down this load of narcotics,” said Severiano Solis, Acting CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Every single seizure our officers make helps to keep our border secure.”
