The Bucks look to put an end to a couple of negative streaks Friday night. The Bucks will look to snap their two-game winless streak (0-1-1), and their five-game home losing streak whe they take on conference-leading Amarillo.
After starting 2-0 the Bucks dropped both of their games last weekend, falling 4-2 Friday in Corpus, and 5-4 in overtime Saturday to Allen in their home opener.
Last Saturday Laredo had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 against the Americans, but could not hold on for the win. Maxime Lincourt broke out in a big way as he had four points (1-3=4), including the tying goal early in the third period. The Bucks are 0-2 this season when trailing after two periods.
Last Saturday’s loss extended the Bucks struggles at the LEC. Going back to last season (including the playoffs) the Bucks have lost their last five home games, including the last four in overtime. Laredo fell 5-0 to Texas in last years regular season home finale, then lost three straight overtime home games to Odessa in the Southern Conference playoffs, before dropping their home opener last Saturday in overtime. The Bucks last win on LEC ice came on March 18th when they beat Texas 4-3 in overtime to give Terry Ruskowski his 500th career win.
Lance Monych (4-3=7) and Jeff Bes (2-5=7) lead the Bucks in scoring with seven points each, and have picked up a point in each game so far this season. Going back to last season Bes has scored a point in his last 11 regular season contests.
During their two-game winless streak Laredo has struggled on special teams. After starting the season 5-13 on the power-play the Bucks are just 3-15 in their last two games. The Bucks had killed off eight of their first nine power-plays against them, but have killed off seven of the past 11.
The Gorillas enter Friday’s game leading the Southern Conference with 10 points, five points ahead of Laredo. Two of the Gorillas five wins are one goal victories.
Amarillo started 0-5 last season.
Joe Guenther leads the Gorillas in scoring with nine points (7-2=9), including a league-leading seven goals. Guenther also has a league-leading plus-nine rating.
Friday’s game will have a Halloween theme, as the first 1,000 fans to enter the LEC receive a FREE Harley Davidson Halloween bag. Trick or treating in the concourse starts at 6:30pm prior to Friday’s game, with several of the Bucks corporate partners handing out goodies. During the second intermission Friday night there will be a costume parade on the ice, so wear your best Halloween costume! Register for the costume parade by picking up an ice waiver at the main entrance of the LEC.
