The Office of the District Attorney reports that Jesus Murillo (12/25/1972) pled guilty today to four counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault. The defendant admitted to having sexually assaulted a female relative from the time she was approximately seven years of age to the time she was twelve. The victim’s statement reports that the abuse began when the defendant and his wife would care for the young girl in their home.
For years, the child kept the secret for fear of disrupting her family structure and causing the defendant to be ‘taken away’ and incarcerated. The sexual abuse finally came to light when the child wrote of her nightmare in a high school essay. Chief Prosecutor Raul Guerra of the District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit stated, “This is an example of the important role teachers play in the lives of young people. They are not only imparting knowledge to our children but may also be the first adult that a victimized child reaches out to. I commend the teacher in this case for recognizing the child’s outcry and following the proper protocol in order to bring this sex offender to justice”.
The defendant was sentenced to twenty years in prison.
