Ladrillera Senior Center Host Mexican Independence Day Dance

Mexican Independence Day was celebrated yesterday at the Laredo Civic Center, hosted by the Ladrillera Senior Center . More than four hundred seniors from throughout Laredo , attended this event, many of the local Adult Care Centers brought their cliental in vans, cars, and or buses. Each attendee was able to take a spin around the dance floor, many of the ladies wore colorful Mexican dresses, music was provided by local favorite and Parks employee, Rule Garcia.
As an added treat to the festivities, Texas A & M International University Ballet Folklorico team; led by Director Sandra Leal; performed traditional Mexican dance routines to the pleasure of the crowd. The festivities continued as Mariachi Azteca de Cigarroa H.S. took center stage under the guidance of Director John Splain. Seniors were than treated to a hot lunch meal, once the lunch ended, the music continued and the Senior’s continued their dancing. “We’re all having a great time, everything is so colorful, and the beautiful dresses worn today gives a cheerful look to our event,” stated Ladrillera Center Supervisor Gerardo Rodriguez, “Our Seniors are proud of their heritage and tradition and today we join with all Laredoans and our neighbors across the border in shouting, ‘Viva Mexico’!
