 El Cenizo resident Graciela Gonzalez was arrested  after the District Attorney’s Office approved a warrant charging her with Cruelty to Animals.  Gonzalez is charged with having severely neglected her two horses.  Neighbors had been attempting to care for the horses but notified authorities when they saw that their condition had severely deteriorated.  A Laredo veterinarian was forced to euthanize one of the horses due to its severely poor state.  The surviving horse is in the Sheriff’s custody.  The District Attorney has ordered that the surviving horse not be returned to the owner pending a termination of rights hearing.

 Gonzalez is the mother of Rene Gonzalez who is currently serving a life sentence in the death of Shanae Casarez.  Rene and Yulianna Espinoza were living together when Rene beat Yulianna’s six year old daughter to death.  The two then dumped the child’s body at Lake Casa Blanca State Park.

 Rene’s brother, Alfredo “Freddie” Gonzalez, was murdered the night of his brother, Rene’s, sentencing.  His death was ordered by Shanae’s biological father, Jesus Roberto Casarez after Freddie was found to have witnessed the child’s beating and to have participated in the cover-up. 

 Graciela’s other son, Charlie, is currently charged with Murder in a separate criminal case.

 Graciela Gonzalez was found guilty of Failure to Report Child Abuse (3/10/2006) after having known of Shanae’s abuse and having allegedly participated in the attempted cover-up of the child’s murder.

 Gonzalez’ bond was set at five thousand dollars.
