The WhiteWings grabbed the early lead in the third inning. Rico Santana hit a two run double that scored both Augstin Septimo and Joaquin Rodriguez. Brian Nichols then followed with a single which moved Santana to third. Juan Melo then hit a sacrifice fly to knock in Santana. Nichols then stole second and went to third when the throw by catcher Luany Sanchez went into center field. Welison Baez then knocked in Nichols with a single. That was followed by a double by Juan Cabrera that scored Baez. Broncos’ starter Luis Arroyo left the game after that hit with an apparent injury. Carlos Alvarez came in and gave up an rbi single to Justin Holloway. That gave Rio Grande Valley the 6-0 lead.
Arroyo lasted two and two thirds of an inning. He gave up six runs, on five hits, walked four, and struck out one.
The WhiteWings added on to their lead in the fourth. Juan Melo hit a two run home run, his first of the season. That made the score 8-0.
Rio Grande Valley extended their lead in the fifth. With Jose Torres on second base, Justin Holloway hit a ball to third baseman Mario Mendez. Mendez’s throw to first was high and got by Luis Ugueto, so Torres was able to score. That made it 9-0 in favor of the WhiteWings.
The WhiteWings tacked on another run in the sixth inning. Brian Nichols scored when Jose Torres reached on a fielder’s choice. The score was now 10-0.
