BRONCOS SWEPT IN DOUBLEHEADER

August 15, 2009-Amarillo, TX-The Laredo Broncos and the Amarillo Dillas had a bench clearing brawl, in a game that saw the Dillas win by a score of 5-4 at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa, on Saturday. It was game two of a doubleheader.
The Broncos started the scoring in the first. Luis Ugueto singled and then moved to second on a walk to David Cardona. After a double play moved Ugueto to third, Argelis Nunez hit a rbi single. That gave Laredo the early 1-0 lead.
The Broncos added on to their lead in the second. Andres Santos led off the inning with a single. Then with one out, Jaime Morales walked and Ryan Flynn reached on an error to load the bases. Luis Ugueto then hit a bases clearing double to make the score 4-0.
The Dillas got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Eric Brown hit a rbi double that scored Terrance McClain. That was followed by a two run single by Brian Bueno that scored Angel Reyes and Brown. Later in the inning Stantrel Smith hit a rbi single that ended up tying the game at four.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Broncos manager Ricardo Cuevas was ejected from the game arguing a controversial call. The call did not end up hurting Laredo as the score remained tied.
Broncos’ starter Will Palmer left the game after five innings of work. He gave up four runs, on seven hits, walked five, and struck out none. Julio Pinto came in to pitch the sixth.
There was no scoring the rest of the way as we headed to extras for the second time with the scored tied at four.
The Dillas threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pinto walked the first two batters of the inning and then was taken out for Franklyn Gracesqui. The runners pulled off a double steal to be on second and third. The Broncos then did a pitch out and caught Keanon Simon at the plate for the out. After that Simon and Gracesqui got into a shoving match and then the benches emptied. There were many shoves and punches thrown that led to ejections.
Edgar Soto came into the game for the Broncos and intentionally walked Brian Bueno to put runners on first and second. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Stantrel Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases. Andrew Wong came up to the plate and
The Broncos scored 4 runs on 7 hits and had 2 errors while the Dillas scored 5 runs on 8 hits and had 1 error.
The Broncos are now 21-43 on the season while the Dillas are 36-27. The Broncos will next be in action Sunday August 16th, as they play game one of a four game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Laredo.
