BRONCOS SPLIT SERIES WITH COLTS

August 7, 2009-San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos rallied late, but fell short as they lost to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 7-6 at Foster Field, on Friday.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the first inning. Luis Ugueto led off with a single and then advanced to second when David Cardona was hit by a pitch. Mario Mendez then reached on an error by Nick Mahin to load the bases. Argelis Nunez followed with a two run single scoring both Ugueto and Cardona. Luany Sanchez then hit a rbi single of his own scoring Mendez. Then with two outs a passed ball allowed Nunez to score from third base. That gave Laredo a 4-0 lead.
The Colts scored in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded and two outs, Cody Pride hit a rbi groundout which scored Aaron Cone. Then after a walk loaded the bases again, Jason Diaz reached on an error by first baseman Luany Sanchez. Two runs scored on the play and the score was now 4-3.
The Colts once again loaded the bases in the third inning, which chased Broncos’ starter Aaron Jenkins from the game. Carlos Alvarez came into the game and got out of the jam, as Laredo still led by a run.
Jenkins only went two and a third innings for the Broncos. He gave up three runs, only one which was earned, on two hits. He walked five batters and struck out two.
Carlos Alvarez kept the Colts off the scoreboard in his three and two thirds innings of work. He only allowed one hit, two walks, and one strike out. Julio Pinto came in for the bottom of the seventh with the Broncos still leading by one.
San Angelo tied the game in the seventh off of Pinto. Aaron Cone hit a rbi single that scored Bryan Frichter, and tied the game at four.
The Colts took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth. With Hunter Jobes on second, Ronnie Gaines hit a rbi double. Later with two outs, Jason Landreth hit a two run single. That gave San Angelo the three run lead heading to the ninth.
Chace Vacek came into the game looking for his 12th save of the season. The Broncos made it interesting as Luany Sanchez and Andres Santos hit back to back singles with no one out. Robert Moron then followed with a walk to load the bases. Pinch hitter Alejandro Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Sanchez. Santos advanced to third with Moron out at second. Jaime Morales then singled scoring Santos and moving Martinez to second. Luis Ugueto then reached on a fielder’s choice that advanced Martinez to third. Morales was out at second on the play. David Cardona popped out to end the game as the Broncos fell 7-6.
The Broncos scored 6 runs on 8 hits and had 2 errors while the Colts scored 7 runs on 10 hits and had 1 error.
The Broncos are now 21-35 on the season while the Colts are 38-18. The Broncos will next be in action Saturday August 8th, as they play game one of a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at 7:05 in Edinburg.
