BRONCOS ROAD STRUGGLES CONTINUE AGAINST THUNDER

August 26, 2009-Robstown, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense only managed four hits, as they lost to the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 7-3 at Fairgrounds Field, on Wednesday.

The Thunder started the scoring in the bottom of the first.  Leivi Ventura hit an rbi single that scored Dustin Smith.  Alex Fernandez then hit a double that scored Amadeo Zazueta.  Later in the inning, Carlos Rodriguez hit an rbi groundout that scored Ventura.  That made the score 3-0.

The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the second.  With one out David Cardona singled, and then went to third when the right fielder dropped Mario Mendez’s fly ball.  Mendez wound up on second base after the play.  Andres Santos then hit an rbi groundout that scored Cardona.  That score was now 3-1.

The Thunder got that run back in the third.  Bryan Vickers knocked in Carlos Rodriguez with a single, to make the score 4-1.

Laredo scored again in the fourth.  Alejandro Martinez led off the inning with a double to left field.  David Cardona then reached on a throwing error by Amadeo Zazueta.  That allowed Martinez to score from second and make the score 4-2.

The Broncos made the game closer in the fifth. With two outs Luis Ugueto was hit by a pitch.  Jaime Morales than hit an rbi triple that scored Ugueto.  The score was now 4-3.

The Thunder got back on the scoreboard in their half of the fifth.  Carlos Rodriguez hit an rbi single that scored Manny Mejia.  Later in the inning Michael Lewis hit a two run double, which chased Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez from the game.  Julio Pinto came in and finished off the inning, as Coastal Bend now had a 7-3 lead.

Vasquez lasted four and two thirds innings for the Broncos.  He gave up seven runs, on 12 hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Pinto ended up throwing two a third scoreless innings before being taken out for Franklyn Gracesqui.  Gracesqui pitched a scoreless eighth as the Broncos trailed by four heading to the ninth.

Alex Gett came out for his second inning of relief and pitched a scoreless ninth, as the Broncos lost their fifth straight game by a score of 7-3.

The Broncos scored 3 runs on 4 hits and had 1 error while the Thunder scored 7 runs on 13 hits and had 2 errors.

The Broncos are now 22-53 on the season while the Thunder are 35-39. The Broncos will next be in action Thursday August 27th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder in Robstown at 7:05.
