BRONCOS RALLY LATE TO BEAT COLTS

August 5, 2009-San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had a five run eighth inning, as they beat the San Angelo Colts by a score of 5-3 at Foster Field, on Wednesday.

The Colts scored first in the second inning.  Travis Calloway hit a rbi single that scored Nick Mahin. Later in the inning with runners on second and third, Charley Belew hit a two run single that scored Butch Ballez and Calloway.  That gave San Angelo the early 3-0 lead.

The Broncos threatened to get on the scoreboard in fifth inning.  Jaime Morales and Luis Ugueto hit back to back singles to start the inning.  However, David Cardona hit into a 5-4-3 double play and Mario Mendez to strike out.  The score remained 3-0 in favor of the Colts.

Laredo once again had a chance to get to the Colts in the eighth.  Brett Lester was in for the Colts as the third reliever the game for San Angelo.  OJ Garza led off with a single and moved to second on a walk to Jaime Morales.  Luis Ugueto followed with a single to load the bases.  David Cardona hit a sacrifice fly to score Garza.  Mario Mendez followed with a walk to once again load the bases.  Jameson Maj came into the game for the Colts to try to get out of the jam.  Argelis Nunez came up and hit a two run single that scored Morales and Ugueto to tie the game.  Mario Mendez advanced to third on the play and then scored on an infield single by Luany Sanchez.  After the second out, Robert Moron hit a rbi single that scored Nunez from second base.  The Broncos now had their first lead of the game by a score of 5-3. 

The starter for Laredo Will Palmer left the game in line for the win after seven innings of work.  He gave up three runs, two of which were earned on 10 hits.  He walked only one batter and struck out seven.  Fernando Rijo came into the game to pitch the eighth.

Rijo pitched a scoreless eighth inning and the Broncos did no damage in the ninth as Laredo led by two runs heading to the bottom of the ninthFranklyn Gracesqui came into the game looking to close out the ballgame.

Gracesqui pitched a 1-2-3 inning, as the Broncos picked up their third straight victory by a score of 5-3.

The Broncos scored 5 runs on 12 hits and had 1 error while the Colts scored 3 runs on 11 hits and had 1 error.

The Broncos are now 21-33 on the season while the Colts are 36-18.  The Broncos will next be in action Thursday August 6th, as they play game three of a four game series against the San Angelo Colts 7:05 in San Angelo.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
