BRONCOS OUTSLUG THUNDER IN VICTORY

August 1, 2009-Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos ended their two game losing streak, as they beat the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 7-4 at Veterans Field, on Saturday.
The Thunder started the scoring in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Alex Fernandez singled into centerfield. Both Alfred Joseph and Leivi Ventura scored, to give Coastal Bend the 2-0 lead.
The Thunder added to their lead in the second. With two outs Kevin Butler hit a solo home run, his first of the season. That made the score 3-0.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in their half of the second. With one out Andres Santos reached on an error. OJ Garza and Alejandro Martinez then hit back to back singles, which loaded the bases. Jaime Morales then reached on another error by the Thunder which allowed Santos to score and the bases to remain loaded. Luis Ugueto followed with a walk that knocked in Garza. That now made the score 3-2 in favor of Coastal Bend.
The Broncos tied the game in the bottom of the third. Mario Mendez led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a groundout by Luany Sanchez. The game was tied at three.
Coastal Bend jumped back in front in the fourth. Chris Lewis led off the inning with a solo home run, his second of the season. That made the score 4-3.
The Broncos grabbed their first lead in the game in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Robert Moron singled, and then scored on a triple by Mario Mendez. Argelis Nunez followed with a rbi single scoring Mendez. Then Luany Sanchez delivered a two run home run, his third of the season. Laredo led for the first time by a score of 7-4.
Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez left the game after five innings of work in line for the win. He gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits. He walked one batter and struck out one as well. Jason Herman came into the game to pitch the sixth.
Jason Herman pitched two 1-2-3 innings for the Broncos as Fernando Rijo came out to pitch the eighth. Rijo retired all three men he faced, as we headed to ninth with the Broncos leading by three.
Franklyn Gracesqui came into the game in the ninth, looking to close out the ballgame. Gracesqui pitched a scoreless ninth as the Broncos picked up the victory by a score of 7-4.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 10 hits and had 2 errors while the Thunder scored 4 runs on 7 hits and had 2 errors.
The Broncos are now 18-32 on the season while the Thunder are 23-27. The Broncos will next be in action Sunday August 2nd, as they play game three of a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder at 7:30.
