BRONCOS EDGED BY COLTS

August 6, 2009-San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had a late rally against them, as they fell to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 6-3 at Foster Field, on Thursday.
The Colts struck first in the second inning. They loaded the bases with one out, on three walks by Broncos starter Gustavo Vasquez. Then with two outs, Hank Lanto hit a two run single that scored Jason Landreth and Aaron Cone. That gave San Angelo the 2-0 lead.
The bottom half of the fourth inning provided some fireworks. With one out and Josh Collazo batting, a check swing appeal was made and ruled not a swing. Argelis Nunez started to yell something from the Broncos’ dugout and was ejected. Ricardo Cuevas, the Broncos manager came out to argue and also was ejected. Collazo still at the plate then delivered a solo home run, his third of the season. That made the score 3-0.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the fifth. Luis Ugueto walked to start the inning, and then moved to second on a walk to Mario Mendez. Jake Wells who replaced Argelis Nunez then hit a rbi single scoring Ugueto. The Broncos then tried a double steal with Mendez making it, but Wells being thrown out at second. With Luany Sanchez batting, a wild pitch was thrown that scored Mendez from third. That now made the score 3-2.
Laredo tied the game in the seventh off of reliever Douglas Brandt. Mario Mendez doubled with one out, and then scored on a triple by Luany Sanchez. That tied the game at 3.
Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez ended his night after six innings of work. He gave up three runs, on three hits, walked three, and struck out two. Jason Herman came in to pitch the seventh.
The Colts got the lead back in the eighth. With runners on first and second and two outs, Josh Collazo hit a rbi single scoring Jason Landreth from second. After Jason Herman was taken out for Julio Pinto, Nick Mahin hit a two run single. That gave San Angelo the 6-3 lead, as Chace Vacek came out for the ninth looking to close out the game.
Vacek pitched a scoreless ninth, as the Broncos lost their first game of the series by a score of 6-3.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 8 hits and had 0 errors while the Colts scored 6 runs on 8 hits and had 1 error.
The Broncos are now 21-34 on the season while the Colts are 37-18. The Broncos will next be in action Friday August 7th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the San Angelo Colts 7:05 in San Angelo.
