AUSTIN, TX – Drunk driving is the leading cause of fatalities in serious crashes across Texas. That’s why, with the long Labor Day weekend approaching, TxDOT will join forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and law enforcement agencies statewide to get drunk drivers off the road. Thursday marks the official kick off of this year’s “Drink, Drive, Go To Jail” campaign and enforcement
period.
This year’s campaign takes a different twist, leveraging the iconic yellow taxicab in cities across Texas. TxDOT’s campaign will feature special police cars, the back half of which will be wrapped to resemble taxicabs. These vehicles will be emblazoned with the message “Choose Your Ride” and will appear throughout the campaign at bar and entertainment districts across Texas. On the north portico of the Long Center, against the backdrop of the Capital City’s skyline and flanked by a
fleet of police cars and taxicabs, TxDOT will launch this year’s Labor Day drunk driving prevention campaign.
During the two weeks between August 21st and September 7th, law enforcement statewide will be out in full force to arrest drunk drivers.
