WIN CRAZY GAME AGAINST DILLAS

July 24, 2009-Amarillo, TX-the Laredo Broncos blew two three run leads, but still won the game against the Amarillo Dillas by a score of 12-9 at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa, on Friday.

For the second straight night, the Dillas started the scoring in the first inning.  Carlos Figueroa knocked in Keanon Simon with a rbi double.  Then with two outs and the bases loaded, Broncos’ starter Gregorio Martinez walked Eric Brown to score Terrance McClain.  That gave Amarillo a 2-0 lead.

The Dillas added on to their lead in the second.  Willie James was on third base, when Keanon Simon stole second base.  The throw by catcher Luany Sanchez was high and ended up in centerfield, which allowed James to score.  That made the score 3-0.

The Broncos jumped on the scoreboard in the third.  Jaime Morales walked to start off the inning and then went to second on a single by Ryan Flynn.  After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, OJ Garza grounded out as well scoring Morales.  Mario Mendez followed with a rbi single scoring Flynn.  The score was now 3-2 in favor of Amarillo.

Laredo took their first lead of the game in the fifth. With one out, OJ Garza and Mario Mendez hit back to back singles.  Then with two outs, Luany Sanchez scored both runners on a double.  That gave the Broncos a 4-3 lead.

The Broncos extended their lead in the seventh.  Mario Mendez led off with a double, and then scored on a single by Argelis Nunez.  After a double play, Andres “El Monkey” Santos hit a solo home run, his third of the season.  That made the score 6-3.

Broncos’ starter Gregorio Martinez was done after six innings.  He gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits.  He walked four batters and struck out three.  Julio Pinto came into the game in relief.

Pinto pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Fernando Rijo a scoreless eighth as the Broncos still lead 6-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth.  Franklyn Gracesqui came out for the ninth, looking for the save.

Gracesqui ran into trouble in the ninth as the Dillas brought the tying run to the plate.  Keanon Simon delivered a single scoring Justin Wenger.  That was followed by another rbi single by Andrew Wong.  The Dillas then put on a double steal successfully moving Simon to third and Wong to second.  The Broncos then intentionally walked Carlos Figueroa to load the bases.  Terrance McClain then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Simon to tie the game at 6.

The Broncos retook the lead in the 11th.  David Cardona walked with one out.  OJ Garza then singled moving Cardona to third.  On the throw Garza went to second base.  Mario Mendez then followed with a two run triple.  After an intentional walk to Argelis Nunez, Luany Sanchez reached on a fielder’s choice, with Mendez scoring.  That gave Laredo a 9-6 lead.

However in the bottom of the 11th, the Dillas tied the game once again.  With the bases loaded Terrance McClain hit a bases clearing double, that tied the game at 9.

The Broncos once again took the lead in the top of the 13th.  Mario Mendez led off with a triple.  Argelis Nunez then drew a walk, which was followed by an intentional walk to Luany Sanchez to load the bases.  Andres Santos then hit a two run single scoring both Mendez and Nunez and moving Sanchez to third.  Robert Moron then knocked in Sanchez with a groundout.  That made the score 12-9.

Edgar Soto came into the game to try to hold the third three run lead of the game.  The Dillas brought the tying run to the plate again in the inning, but Terrance McClain hit into a double play.  The Broncos won the marathon game in 13 innings by a score of 12-9.

The Broncos scored 12 runs on 19 hits and had 3 errors while the Dillas scored 9 runs on 13 hits and had 1 error.

The Broncos are now 15-27 on the season while the Dillas are 22-20.  The Broncos will next be in action Saturday July 25th, as they play game three of a four game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Amarillo at 7:05.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
